Moving homes is usually a very tense time for all members of the family. It’s a big disruption that if care is not taken could cause serious stress. It is therefore very important to plan as much as possible and get professional help where necessary.

If you will be using the services of a removal company, then check the contract provided to be sure of what is included in the price and what other services you will need to pay for. Also, ensure that you are properly covered by your home insurance during the move. To find a reliable removal company, contact your local association of removers, they will be happy to help you with any information needed and provide a few helpful tips too.

Packing Tips

Keep a comprehensive record of what is contained in each box and mark them accordingly. A simple system of numbering is okay. The most important thing is to know where each item was kept when packing. Avoid overfilling the boxes; you don’t want to start worrying about a box breaking under strain during transit. It’s also important that the boxes are not under-filled to avoid been crushed under the weight of heavier boxes. A balance should be reached in this regards. Also, take note of boxes containing items that are breakable. Start packing at least two weeks in advance with items you won’t need immediately in the new house. This is to allow you concentrate more on the important things on the day of move. Pack your clothing in suitcases.

On The Day
On the actual day of move, pack the things that will be needed immediately when you get to the new house in a well-marked box and in a nearby place. This box should be kept with you together with important documents, telephone numbers, and valuables and most importantly, the keys to your new house. You should be the one to handle this box and not the people helping with the packing to avoid any delay at the new house.

Also remember to switch off all appliances like electricity, gas and water. Remember to take the final meter readings before leaving finally and keep in an appropriate place.

Other Issues

You should keep people informed of your move to avoid missing any important information or mail. You can arrange to re-direct all your post via Mail. Prices usually start from just a few dollars per month and it’s really worth the cost, at least for the first few months. You should ask about this from the nearest Post Office or through their website.

Below is a list of companies and individuals who should be notified about your move.

Medical Doctor
Insurance agent/company
Stockbroker
Dentist
Family & Friends
Inland Revenue Service
Newspaper agent
Satellite TV operator
Automobile Insurers
And so on

We do hope that the simple tips provided above covers the most important areas of concern and that they will be helpful for you during your next move.

Moving Home Safely

So, the big day comes. You’re all packed, the removal van is here and you’re on your way. You pick up the new keys and arrive at your new home. Soon you are in and are busy unpacking. Add what are you likely to have forgotten to arrange? To get the locks changed…..

Most people, when they move house, either forget to get the locks changed or put it off either because of the expense or because they are too busy.

As a locksmith, I would advise that this is a really bad thing to overlook. (And not because of the money I would make if you got it done). Just think. At your last house, how many people had your key?

Neighbours?

Friends?

Tradespeople?

The owners before you?

Basically, when you move into a new home, there’s no telling who might have a key. If the property is rented, you need to remember that the previous occupant may have been evicted and it is not compulsory for the landlord to change the locks. If an eviction happened, the previous tenant might have a grudge and could easily use the key to ransack the place.

Another thing to consider is that the locks could well be faulty or ineffective. Seeking the advice o a good locksmith will give you security and peace of mind.

Lastly, it might be a requirement of your insurance that certain types of locks are fitted. Certain policies require all downstairs windows to be fitted with locks and all doors, where possible, to be fitted with high security, 5-lever mortice locks. Some insurers might refuse to pay if there is no sign of forced entry following a burglary.

So, please, when moving, seek out the services of a good locksmith, to review your home security and give you peace of mind and to keep you and your home safe!

Moving and Its Related Hazards

Moving to a new place is equally exciting and stressful. Relocating to a different place can mean a whole new world to explore – a new town to settle in, new house, new schools, new work place, new people to meet, new paths in life. Hiring the West Palm Beach Movers can ease the load.

When moving, the first step is to go and ask family members and friends who have moved for recommendations on Fort Myers moving companies. Those people who have recently completed moves of their own are often in the best position to give advice, and this kind of first hand advice on moving can be quite valuable when it is your turn to pull up stacks and head to a new location.

Even if you are not lucky enough to have this first hand moving experience you can still take advantage of the next best thing by carefully checking the references of any moving company you are considering. All moving companies should be willing to provide references, so be sure to ask them for information on past customers. After having this list of referees people need to make sure to follow up and ask those former customers what they liked, and did not like about the moving company. By following this strategy you should be able to find a moving company that is reliable and trustworthy. Most of the moving companies have their movers’ website for the moving related information for the people who are on the verge to move.

After you have chosen the perfect services, it is important to review the contract carefully and to read the fine print. Be user that the moving contract clearly spells out what is to be moved and the dates. If you have any items of extraordinary value, such as artwork or collectibles, be sure that those items are covered by the moving company. In some cases you may need to take out special insurance to cover moving those very valuable items.

The companies who are members of the American Moving and Storage Association or AMSA or the Better Business Bureau or BBB have agreed to work according to a code, so it’s best to choose one of them. You will be given the opportunity to compare movers and their moving services.

Disclosure of the moving information and written estimates of the charges that may occur are being provided by the Florida relocation Services that are members of the AMSA. They also offer timely service and give a prompt response to any claims or complaints the customer might have.
